چکیده

One main challenge in Augmented Reality (AR) applications is to keep track of video objects with their movement, orientation, size, and position accurately. This poses a challenging task to recover nonrigid shape and global pose in real-time AR applications. This paper proposes a novel two-stage scheme for online non-rigid shape recovery toward AR applications using Active Appearance Models (AAMs). First, we construct 3D shape models from AAMs offline, which do not involve processing of the 3D scan data. Based on the computed 3D shape models, we propose an efficient online algorithm to estimate both 3D pose and non-rigid shape parameters via local bundle adjustment for building up point correspondences. Our approach, without manual intervention, can recover the 3D non-rigid shape effectively from either real-time video sequences or single image. The recovered 3D pose parameters can be used for AR registrations. Furthermore, the facial feature can be tracked simultaneously, which is critical for many face related applications. We evaluate our algorithms on several video sequences. Promising experimental results demonstrate our proposed scheme is effective and significant for real-time AR applications.

Title : Nonrigid Surface Modelling and Fast Recovery

Modelling and recovering nonrigid surface are interesting research problem for image analysis and computer vision, which can be applied in a variety of applications. In this report, two different approaches to nonrigid surface recovery have been proposed. One is based on the appearance models, the other employs the local features. As for the appearance-based method, a two-stage scheme method is...

An Adaptive Approach to Real-Time 3D Non-Rigid Registration

3D non-rigid registration is fundamental for tracking or reconstruction of 3D deformable shapes. Fast methods for 3D non-rigid registration are particularly interesting for markerless augmented reality applications, in which the object being used as a natural marker may undergo a non-rigid user interaction. Here, we present a multi-frame adaptive algorithm for 3D non-rigid registration implemen...

Augmenting Non-Rigid Objects with Realistic Lighting

In augmented reality, virtual objects are added to the real world by superimposing them onto a video stream or a head-mounted display in real-time. Typical augmented reality applications track 2D patterns on rigid planar objects in order to acquire the pose of the camera in the scene. Rigid augmentations are then performed on the planar objects. We present a method to track non-rigid objects su...

Texture Overlay onto Non-rigid Surface using Commodity Depth Camera

We present a method for overlaying a texture onto a non-rigid surface using a commodity depth camera. The depth cameras are able to capture 3-D data of a surface in real-time, and have several advantages compared with methods using only standard color cameras. However, it is not easy to register a 3-D deformable mesh to a point cloud of the non-rigid surface while keeping its geometrical topolo...
